Traffic, Community Facilities Among Concerns for New Elementary School

With much still to do, school is slated to open by September 2015.

Three months of concept work on a new elementary school in North Arlington has turned into five, but school officials remain confident that the project will be finished in time to open by September 2015. The school's impact on the surrounding neighborhoods — specifically, on the traffic — is a concern, as evidenced during a two-hour briefing the Arlington County Board received Thursday night. County leaders, too, want the sports fields on the Williamsburg Middle School campus — where the new elementary school will be located — to be true community facilities. So far, Arlington Public Schools doesn't have the money in its budget to realize that, School Board Member Abby Raphael said. The two bodies also talked about design and community …

First priority mus be school security....why are new schools designed as regional sports, recreation,entertainment, community centers with classrooms? Where's the school security? It's an oxymoron. Moreover, if the people who run Arlington were responsible they wouldn't be packing more people into a tiny county that's already overcrowded. Where is the common sense? There isn't any. Arlington Public Schools Hosts Meetings on Williamsburg Boundaries

Arlington Public Schools has planned several meetings for December.

Arlington Public Schools has begun hosting community meetings to discuss boundaries for a new elementary school on the Williamsburg Middle School campus. The school board has identified the following seven elementary school communities to directly engage in this process: Ashlawn, Glebe, Jamestown, McKinley, Nottingham, Taylor and Tuckahoe. The next meeting will take place at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Taylor Elementary School, 2600 N. Stuart St. Future meetings In the past five years, the number of students in the school system has grown by 28 percent, according to APS.
