Congressman Moran Wins 12th Term in U.S. House

Incumbent representing state's 8th Congressional District defeats Republican Patrick Murray, Independent Jason Howell and Independent Green Party's Janet Murphy in Tuesday's race.

Democratic U.S. Rep. Jim Moran secured another term in office, soundly defeating Patrick Murray, Jason Howell and Janet Murphy in the 8th Congressional District.  "Tonight was a vindication of the President's efforts to get our country back on track after the worst recession in our nation's history," Moran said in a statement released late Tuesday night. "Tim Kaine will be our next Senator, a good, decent man who will serve the commonwealth with great distinction. Our nation faces major challenges that demand solutions. We owe it to the American people to come together and work toward reaching the kind of compromise necessary to get the country again moving forward." GOP Contender for 8th District Running Low on Funds

J. Patrick Murray's campaign lists almost $30,000 cash on hand; FEC notes debts of $38,000

The campaign of J. Patrick Murray, the sole Republican candidate running against Congressman Jim Moran (D-8th District), is running low on funds, according to the latest campaign finance reports filed with the Federal Election Commission. An FEC disclosure form states that Murray has: "What you see is long-term debt that is money I loaned to the campaign," Murray told Patch on Monday. "That's my money, largely from the first time I ran. We don't owe anybody anything. We have cash on hand and continue to do more." Murray ran against Moran, an 11-term incumbent, in 2010, taking 37.31 percent of the vote.
