The former governor and U.S. Senate candidate toured Courthouse-based OPower and called that company's story "inspirational."
A little over five years ago, Dan Yates and Alex Laskey were trying to figure out where they should start their business — OPower, a business that would work with utility companies to help their customers conserve energy and save money. “Consistently, going from person to person, we got feedback that Virginia was a great place to start a business,” Yates told a small crowd of Northern Virginia business leaders Wednesday. “That’s an applause line,” U.S. Senate candidate and former Gov. Tim Kaine interjected. The crowd chuckled and complied. Kaine and U.S. Sen. Mark Warner, D-Va., toured OPower before meeting with more than 30 area business leaders last week. It was the first day of Kaine’s two-week tour of Virginia in which he’s laying out …

Both a daughter and wife of Virginia governors, Holton embarked on a listening tour of Northern Virginia on Saturday in support of her husband's candidacy for the U.S Senate.
Former Virginia first lady Anne Holton is going full speed ahead campaigning for husband Tim Kaine, the former governor who hopes to get elected to the U.S. Senate come November. Most polls show a race between Democrat Kaine and probable GOP candidate George Allen as "neck and neck" as Holton herself put it Saturday. Married more than 25 years, Holton and Kaine first met when both were students at Harvard Law School. Today Anne is a wife, mother and lawyer, and a campaigner, a role she said she will increase as the election nears. She traveled to Northern Virginia Saturday from her family's home in Richmond, making stops in Leesburg, Vienna and Reston. In Vienna, Holton criss-crossed the town on a blustery spring day, visiting owners and …

The U.S. Senate candidate offered his philosophy about the need for 'talent' to attract business and boost the economy.
Former Virginia governor and U.S. Senate candidate Tim Kaine, a Democrat who turns 54 next week, met with business owners and leaders at the Loudoun Chamber of Commerce office in Lansdowne on Wednesday and zeroed in on the his belief in the importance of “talent.” “It’s something I’m really passionate about,” he said, explaining that Virginia has climbed in his lifetime to 38th in per capita income to its current position around No. 7. “It’s a Virginia lesson, frankly. No state has moved as far as Virginia, from sluggish to vibrant.” Despite a low-tax, low-regulation environment, Virginia was still poor 50 years ago, he said. But then a greater focus on education ushered the state toward prosperity, Kaine said. “The thing that I think has …

“There are probably a lot of people in this room who pay federal taxes,” he said. “GE doesn’t.” Hmmm we should probably raise that issue with Obama and his "Jobs Czar", Jeffey Immelt...ohhhh that's right...Immelt is the CEO of GE....nevermind. Pathetic.   more ›
