Police: Man Strangles Ex-Girlfriend, Steals Dog in Clarendon

Victim was walking alone late at night, according to police.

A 24-year-old Hyattsville, Md., man has been accused of strangling his ex-girlfriend and stealing her dog in the Clarendon-Courthouse neighborhood of Arlington. Jonathan Jimenez has been arrested and charged with strangulation, attempted malicious wounding, grand larceny, and domestic assault and battery, according to the Arlington County Police Department. He is being held without bond. At about 12:15 a.m. Tuesday, a woman reportedly was walking her dog, a Chihuahua, in the 2400 block of North 11th Street near Rocky Run Park. "He approaches her on foot, they exchange some words, and he grabs her by the neck," Arlington County Police Department spokesman Dustin Sternbeck told Patch. Arlington Board OKs $2.9M Renovation to Rocky Run Park

The 2.3-acre park in Clarendon-Courthouse will feature more amenities for tots and school-aged children.

The Arlington County Board late Tuesday approved a $2.9 million contract for a substantial renovation of Rocky Run Park in the Clarendon-Courthouse neighborhood. The 2.3-acre park, at the intersection of North Barton and North Fairfax streets, will get a substantial facelift — improvements include new tot and school-aged playground equipment and a picnic shelter at the upper end of the park; two lighted hard-surface courts; a lighted synthetic field; and lawn areas, improved accessibility and "extensive" landscaping, according to a county staff report.
