A weekly listing of real estate properties on the market in Georgetown and Arlington. After all, real estate is a spectator sport, too.

These properties range in price–and size–but could prove to be an excellent place to invest any football pool winnings. Waterfront living with ample space for preparing game-day snacks A condo at 1015 33rd Street with a fully decked-out kitchen hit the market for $769,000 – a steep discount to the unit’s previous sale for over $900,000 in October 2008. What do the 80 million strong millennial population want and why are they choosing Arlington?
The National Association of Home Builders held their annual conference this week in Orlando, FL. While much of the talk focused on the housing needs of the 74 million aging baby boomer generation, there was also significant discussion on what the larger, 80 million strong millennial generation wants. The millennial generation, born roughly between 1977 and 1995, are also known as Generation Y, Generation Why, Adultolescents, Generation Tech and Echo Boomers. They represent the biggest shift in the U.S. workforce since the baby boomers came of age and will soon account for the majority of American workers, especially as boomers start to retire. But it’s not just their vast numbers that make millennials important to the labor market. …

Gas Light Square is the first new condo project in recent years.
Gaslight Square is soon to be Arlington's newest luxury condo development. It is also the first project since the real estate market downturn several years ago and the subsequent financial crisis in 2007 to be developed as condos from the beginning rather than rental apartments. Just another sign that the real estate market has turned the corner. Gaslight Square will occupy an entire block (see map) bounded by Clarendon Blvd., N Queen St, N Quinn St. and N 16th St. The 114 unit project will consist of three buildings and the units are expected to be in the $700,000 to $1,400,000 range. Ground was broken for the development just recently. Across the N Queen St is the award winning Mercer and Wooster Lofts, also built by Abdo Development. …

Discussions about Milennials and their housing choices are somewhat premature and certainly speculative at this time as this group has generally delayed purchase, being content to take their time and rent. The psychographics of this group, which will pay a major part in the future of U.S. housing, would suggest an urban preference but only time will tell. I blogged about this topic early last …   more ›
