Carlin Springs Program to Teach Children, Families Healthy Eating Habits

Elementary school program starts next school year.

A $25,000 state grant will fund a bilingual program at Carlin Springs Elementary School designed to teach healthy eating habits to children and their families. The Healthy Meals for Healthy Families  program includes weekly classes for at-risk students in the third, fourth and fifth grades at Carlin Springs. Moving Forward Together: Tejada Initiative Targets Childhood Obesity

Encouraging healthy lifestyles is part of the broader Moving Forward Together campaign.

Arlington County Board Chairman Walter Tejada this month kicked off his Moving Forward Together campaign in an effort make community members healthier — and targeting childhood obesity is at the top of the list. The policy will guide Arlington County in building a coalition of volunteers and community members to work on a wide-range of areas — from getting children to eat better and exercise more to training childcare providers and establishing new community gardens.
