Arlington Offers Service to Opt Out of Junk Mail

Catalog Choice for Arlington County launched in November.

Arlington County is offering a new service for residents who want to get rid of junk mail. “That’s anything from a catalogue you may get from a department store, to credit card offers, to coupon mailers,” said Kristen Goldman, an environmental planner for the county. Catalog Choice, Arlington, allows residents to opt out of unwanted mail by signing up with an account online where they can pick and choose what mail they receive from companies. Before signing up, customers are encouraged to hold on to at least some of their junk mail for the time being so that they can find the company name on the Catalog Choice site. Since the free program launched in Arlington on Nov. 1, an estimated 36,000 pounds of waste has been prevented, Goldman said…
