Robbery A currency exchange station was robbed on Christmas Eve, according to the Arlington County Police Department. The robbery took place at 2:42 p.m. Dec. 24 at the exchange inside the Pentagon City Mall, 1100 S. Hayes St., according to police. The suspect was described as a man approximately 50 years old, 150 pounds, and with a short beard. He wore a jean jacket over a black hooded sweatshirt and a black hat, according to police. Indecent exposure A 63-year-old man has been charged with indecent exposure after police said he was seen masturbating inside the sauna of a gym. Morris Umansky, of Arlington, was seen fondling himself at the gym at 9:21 a.m. Dec. 21 at the gym in the 3500 block of South Clark Street, according to police. …

Commonwealth's Attorney's Office: Victims' testimony helped lead to conviction.
Storme Gary Swann, 51, formerly of La Plata, Md., was found guilty this week in Arlington County Circuit Court of two counts of robbery, two counts of abduction and one count of statutory burglary. A jury found Swann guilty Thursday following a three-day trial and recommended a 95-year sentence, according to an Arlington County Police Department news release. On Aug. 14, 2010, Swann forced his way into a hotel room and assaulted, detained and bound two female tourists — a 73-year-old woman and her 51-year-old daughter, both visiting from Canada, the release states. The hotel was in the 2400 block of South Glebe Road. Swann robbed them of cash, jewelry and electronics and sexually assaulted one of them, the release states. Swann's criminal …

The Arlington County Police Department will hold its final community crime forum tonight at Key Elementary School.
The spate of violent crimes this summer had Arlington County homicide detectives working around the clock. Some detectives, after the highly publicized killing of a Columbia Pile jewelry store owner, did not sleep for 36 to 48 hours. "We knew (the suspect) was going to do it again," Police Capt. Michelle Nuneville said recently at a community forum at the Arlington Career Center on Walter Reed Drive. "So, that was a relief when we got him off the street." The death of Tommy Wong was one of four homicides that stirred the community. After going more than two years with zero murders, this summer saw a murder-suicide, the murder of Wong, and a double-homicide that remains open. Top Crime Stories of the Week: Robbery A man was robbed of $60 and his cell phone while walking home from a bus stop, according to police. The incident occurred at 11 p.m. Friday in the 3400 block of S. 23rd St. Two men approached the victim. One was between 25 and 30 years old, about 5 feet, 9 inches tall and 160 pounds. The second man was about 5 feet, 5 inches tall and 160 pounds. Burglary A victim woke up at 3:30 a.m. Sunday to find someone inside his apartment taking items. Top crime/public safety news of the week: The following incidents were reported Wednesday by the Arlington County Police Department: Robbery A woman walking home from the Ballston Metro Station had her purse snatched just before 10 p.m. Tuesday, according to police. The woman told police that she briefly chased the man before losing track of him. The robber was heavy set, approximately 5 feet, 8 inches tall, and bald. Attempted Armed Robbery A sales clerk at Nordstrom’s jewelry department was held at gunpoint, according to police. The robber entered the store at 1400 S. Hayes St. at about 10 a.m. Friday. Spokesman: Suspect returned to Arlington apartment while police were on scene.
Arlington County police say a 25-year-old Gaithersburg, Md., man robbed his girlfriend recently only to be arrested when he returned to her apartment shortly afterward. Daryl Villanueva has been charged with burglary and is being held without bond. Shortly after 2 a.m. Friday, Villanueva kicked in his girlfriend's apartment door in the 1700 block of North Troy Street near the Courthouse neighborhood, according to information police released this week. He then assaulted her and stole an unidentified amount of cash from her purse, according to police. He also took makeup and a clutch wallet, police spokesman Dustin Sternbeck said. Robbery A 33-year-old man was arrested after police said he pushed a man to the ground, kicked him in the chest, and stole his cell phone, according to the Arlington County Police Department. Sorrell Tyree Carter, of Alexandria, was charged with robbery. The incident occurred just before 3 p.m. Tuesday in the 4100 block of Four Mile Run Drive, according to police. Carter allegedly accosted the victim where he worked. He was held without bond. Burglary Someone broke into a home in the 2900 block of South Woodstock Street and stole prescription drugs, according to police.
