Krupicka plans to address a diverse portfolio of issues, but says the bulk of his bills will focus on education.
Newly elected state Del. Rob Krupicka is headed to Richmond next week with a focus on education. “The bulk of my bills deal with education issues and a lot of my education concepts are informed by my work on the Board of Education and the relationships I built from that,” Krupicka told Patch editors last month in an interview at Del Ray’s St. Elmo’s Coffee Pub. The delegate for the 45th District, representing the City of Alexandria and parts of Fairfax and Arlington counties, has posted a 2013 legislative survey on his website to gather input from constituents. Krupicka served on the state Board of Education since 2009 where he has been a strong advocate of early childhood education and increasing math and science opportunities in the …

Club says voters who care about the environment should vote for Rob Krupicka.
State delegate candidate Rob Krupicka picked up an endorsement from the Sierra Club on Tuesday. The Sierra Club endorsement comes a week before the Special Election on Sept. 4 for a delegate to represent the 45th District, which represents Alexandria as well as parts of Fairfax and Arlington counties. “Rob Krupicka has been a champion on environmental and clean energy issues while on the Alexandria City Council; just the kind of leadership we need in the Virginia General Assembly," said Glen Besa, director of the Virginia Chapter of Sierra Club. "Our local Sierra Club activists have worked closely with Mr. Krupicka on a number of environmental initiatives including the retirement of GenOn’s Potomac River coal plant slated to close later …

Group says Krupicka will act in the best interest of children and the association's members.
Rob Krupicka got the nod from the Virginia Education Association on Monday in his bid to compete for a delegate seat representing the state’s 45th District in the House of Delegates. “Because public education is so vital to Virginia’s well-being, the VEA Fund for Children and Public Education recommends candidates for office we believe will act in the best interest of children and our members in the public schools who serve them,” said VEA President Meg Gruber. “Mr. Krupicka clearly passes our test.” “Rob Krupicka has been a friend and advocate for the students, teachers and staff of the Alexandria City Public Schools,” said Gina Miller, president of the Education Association of Alexandria and chair of the Alexandria PAC for Education. “We…

Alexandria City Councilman Rob Krupicka claims 63 percent of the vote.
Rob Krupicka is the Democratic nominee for the 45th District House of Delegates seat. The Alexandria City Councilman defeated Karen Gautney 1,540 to 891 after caucus voting ended Saturday at Cora Kelly Rec Center. “I couldn’t be here without the amazing group of friends I made when I entered public life in this city,” Krupicka said shortly after the results were announced. “It was great seeing all those friends come out despite the governor’s best effort to throw one past us.” Gov. Bob McDonnell announced the date of a Sept. 4 special election less than two weeks ago, causing both parties to scramble to nominate a candidate. Krupicka will face Republican nominee Tim McGhee. The seat opened when Del. David Englin announced his resignation …

Thursday evening's GOP canvass is canceled after Tim McGhee emerges as the only Republican candidate.
Tim McGhee is the Republican candidate for the 45th House of Delegates seat, the GOP district chairman told Patch Thursday afternoon. Heath Wells said three candidates submitted candidacy paperwork, but two withdrew because of family or work conflicts. Since McGhee is the lone candidate, the Republican canvass scheduled for Thursday night is canceled. McGhee lost to Adam Ebbin in the 30th District state senate race last year. He claimed just over 35 percent of the vote. “Virginia has weathered the challenges of the recession better than most states, thanks to the leadership of Governor Bob McDonnell and others,” McGhee wrote in his statement of candidacy released Thursday. “Serious fiscal challenges lie ahead at all levels of the …

Ebbin defeated Krupicka in state senate primary last year.
Rob Krupicka picked up the endorsement of State Sen. Adam Ebbin (D-30th) on Wednesday in the race to replace David Englin as state delegate from the 45th District. Krupicka, an Alexandria City councilman and a member of the State Board of Education, lost to Ebbin in a Democratic primary for state senate one year ago this month. “[Rob] has been a steadfast ally in the fight for true equality, a world-class education system, a cleaner environment, smart transportation solutions, and innovative policies that keep our economy strong,” Ebbin wrote in an email to supporters on Wednesday morning. The announcement came on the eve of a last-minute caucus to determine the Democratic nominee. Krupicka is running against fellow Alexandria resident …

Alexandria City Councilman Rob Krupicka says education is his top priority and promises to fight against "right-wing extremism."

"As a graduate of the University of Virginia, and someone who has worked to increase the number of students ready to succeed in college, I will work to make sure our public higher education system is transparent, affordable and accessible for every resident of the Commonwealth,” said Krupicka, who is also a member of the State Board of Education. Del. David Englin tells Gov. Bob McDonnell he hopes a special election will be held on Nov. 6.
Del. David Englin (D-45th) announced Thursday that he has submitted his resignation from the House of Delegates effective Aug. 31 and endorsed Karen Gautney to replace him. In April, Englin announced he would not seek re-election to focus on rebuilding his marriage and family. He admitted to being unfaithful to his wife. In his resignation notice to Gov. Bob McDonnell, Englin said he hoped a special election for his seat would be held during the Nov. 6 General Election “to ensure the best possible stewardship of taxpayer resources.” Englin endorsed Gautney, writing: "The people of the 45th District deserve a Delegate who is totally devoted to fighting for what's right and not distracted by future political ambitions. … Karen's diplomacy, …

There are many different topics on this particular thread (schools, BRAC, 45th special election, etc.) and I hope those reading and posting are getting some added value to these issues as a result of this online discussion. As the current Chair of the Alexandria Democratic Committee, I wanted to briefly respond to some of the comments made by previous posters concerning the ADC. I certainly …   more ›
