The USO lifts the morale of servicemen and -women.

Financials: Raised about $105 million in 2009, according to its tax filing that year.

History: From the USO's website: Several organizations joined together in 1941 to support the U.S military, including the Salvation Army, the YMCA, the YWCA, National Catholic Community Services, National Travelers Aid Association and the National Jewish Welfare Board. It is a private institution created by an act of Congress and funded in part by the Department of Defense.
