Arlington 14U Babe Ruth All Stars Advance in State Tournament

Team plays again at 11 a.m. today in Manassas.

Quinn Montante's seeing-eye single to centerfield helped Teddy Herbert score the fifth run as the Arlington 14U Babe Ruth All Stars pulled away from District 4 champ Augusta 7-3 in quarter-final action at the state Babe Ruth Tournament in Manassas this weekend.

Montante went 2-3 at the plate with a run batted in but, more importantly, relieved in the third inning and pitched five innings with no earned runs while scattering five singles and striking out five.

Offensively, the team was led by Danny McCreedy with three singles and a double; Will Burgess, who had three hits, three RBIs and his second triple in as many tournament games; and Herbert, who led off the fourth with a double and scored the third run on JJ Ricchetti's clutch RBI single.

Defensively, Daniel Bowler turned in three spectacular plays at third base — one throwing a man out from his knees — TR Sheehy made a tumbling catch in centerfield, Burgess strong armed two runners from deep in the shortstop hole and catcher James Levenberg gunned down a would-be base thief.

Arlington plays again Sunday in semi-final action at 11 a.m. in Manassas.
