All Cheers at Buckingham Community Festival

Annual festival was held this weekend.

The Buckingham Community Festival, a tradition in the neighborhood for the past 12 years, was again a success. Though it started under heavy rains and the gloomy chance it could be canceled, BU-GATA and the neighborhood were determined to keep the festival going. BU-GATA is a nonprofit tenants associations that primarily serves the Buckingham community.

Even with the heavy downpour, residents came out to enjoy the music of Luz de Luna and dance in the rain.

When the storm cleared, the streets filled up and all the kids crowded around the stands that included games like horseshoes and putt-putt. The information booths were set up to help people register to vote and to find out about Arlington County's housing programs. The day’s events culminated with a folkloric Columbian dance group and the announcement of two scholarship awards donated by Sam Chon, the owner of Glebe Market.

Thanks to all the sponsors, the county staff from the Parks and Recreation Department and the police who helped make the festival a success.
