Street Hockey League Looks To Expand Beyond Crystal City

League kicked off second half of summer season Thursday.

DC Social Sports kicked off the second half of its summer street hockey season Thursday night, marking the halfway point in the league's third year in Crystal City.

Four teams strong, registration for the first 2013 season sold out in five days; the second season was fully registered in 14 hours, said Phil Karash with the social sports league.

With so much interest, DC Social Sports is hoping to secure permits to start a second street hockey league in Washington, Karash told Patch.

"It's a lot of fun," he said.

The Crystal City league is sponsored by the local Business Improvement District. Karash said the only rule was to keep fees low enough to keep the rosters full.

Obviously, that hasn't been a problem.

Patch will have more on the Crystal Rolls street hockey program, including a photo gallery, soon.
