Barcroft Baseball Diamond Reopens Saturday

George Washington University will continue to use field for practices and home games.

The Arlington County Department of Parks and Recreation will celebrate the renovation of an NCAA-class baseball diamond at Barcroft Park on Saturday.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony will take place at 11 a.m. for the county's first turf diamond field. Barcroft Field No. 6 is one of three county-owned 90-foot baseball diamonds.

The renovations were supported by George Washington University, which has used and helped maintain the field for about 20 years, according to Parks and Recreation. The exact cost of renovations was not immediately available Thursday afternoon.

The upgrades include expanded seating, covered dugouts, bullpens, batting cages, a press box, concession stands, an entry plaza and expanded parking, according to the university.

The GW Colonials will continue to use the field for games and practices and pay for a portion of maintenance costs. The university uses the field from September to November for practices and from February to May for practices and regular season home games.

Following the March 2 ceremony, the Colonials will take on Quinnipiac University.

The event is free. Barcroft Park is located at 4200 S. Four Mile Run Drive.
