'Formals for Five' Event to Benefit Victims in Boston Bombing

The Washington-Lee High School PTA has decided some of the proceeds will go to charity this year.

A portion of the proceeds from the ‘Formals for Five’ drive by the Washington-Lee High School PTA will go to families of victims in the Boston bombings.

As Patch reported earlier this month, the goal of the event is to collect new, used and gently used formal wear and accessories for high school students to purchase at $5 each.

In light of recent events, the PTA has opted to send some of the proceeds from the event to a victim’s fund.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims of this horrible incident,” reads a note from the Formals for Five organizers. “We hope the contribution will help in some small way.”

A boutique featuring all the prom dresses will take place next week. The group has collected 260 dresses as of Thursday, and the goal is 400.
