Vacuum Leaf Collection Starts Monday in Arlington County

Vaccum leaf collection starts Monday in Arlington County, and officials are asking that residents take a few steps before then.

The leaf collection process is done in phases for respective neighborhoods starting Monday through Dec. 31. Find out when leaf collectors are coming to your neighborhood. The county asks that residents do the following in preperation for this:

  • Leaves must be raked out to the curb by the dates listed
  • If you miss your collection date, leaves should be recycled in biodegradable leaf bags 
  • Dates are subject to change due to weather and other events

Arlington County's Department of Environmental Services collect about 50,000 cubic yards of leaves every year around this time in a complex leaf collection program.

Staff form the leaf collection schedule by analyzing "historic data, tree types and density, weather forecasts, state forestry forecasts, and resident feedback," according to the department's website.
