VA Senate Passes Sonogram Bill

Legislation mandates that women seeking abortion must have procedure. Meanwhile, see Sen. Janet Howell's (D-Reston) impassioned speech about gender equity.

The Republican-led Virginia Senate passed a bill Wednesday by a vote of 21-18 that would require women to undergo an ultrasound before having an abortion.

The Senate, which for years had killed similar measures, voted largely along party lines.

The House of Delegates, also heavily Republican,  has passed the bill in previous sessions and is expected to do so again. Gov. Bob McDonnell (R) has said he would sign the measure. To read more details and analysis on the decision, read this story from The Washington Post.

Senate Democrats said this is another measure aimed at chipping away at a woman's right to choose in Virginia. that would require men to have a rectal exam and a cardiac stress test before obtaining a prescription for erectile dysfunction medication.

Howell's amendment did not pass, but her speech on the floor has garnered national attention from pro-choice supporters.

Pro-Lifers are total hypocrites. There is a bill in the U.S. House of Representatives (HR 3323) being pushed by congressional staffer and candidate for Arlington County Board Mark Kelly that would repeal the Labor Department's safety regulations for children working on farms.

Elective abortion (choosing to end, not preserve, a human life) is the opposite of healthcare, and hence the hypocrite name calling and comparisons to ED are disgusting and demeaning.

Mark Kelly's day job is writing federal legislation to allow argibusiness to exploit and kill children. Pro-Life is Low-Life. Next item on the Low-Lifers' agenda is to make contraception illegal. They are all crazies who worship human cells and abuse and exploit human children.

This isn't a discriminatory bill, seeing as women are the only ones capable of having abortions.

I'd be willing to bet 99.9% of the time women aren't really given a choice. As soon as they're told they're pregnant the response is "Oh don't worry, we'll take care of it" instead of asking what the patient would like? If you're getting healthcare from an abortion provider they want whatever will bring in the most income. Sad.....
