USS Arlington to be Commissioned in Norfolk in 2012

McDonnell announces agreement with the Navy to hold commissioning in Virginia.

The USS Arlington, one of three boats named for areas directly affected by the 9/11 attacks, will be commissioned in Norfolk next year, Gov. Bob McDonnell announced today.

“It is fitting that this ship, named to recognize those who were injured or lost their lives in the grievous September 11 attack on the Pentagon, and honoring the emergency responders, families and other Virginians who were so greatly impacted by the events that day, will be commissioned in the state where these events took place," McDonnell stated in a press release.

The governor and Virginia's congressional delegation worked with the U.S. Navy to make sure the Arlington would be commissioned in Virginia in 2012, the release states.
