Ramp from westbound Interstate 66 to westbound Route 50 also has been closed for emergency repairs.

The Virginia Department of Transportation will detour traffic off a portion of westbound Route 50/Arlington Boulevard in the Clarendon-Courthouse area both days this weekend.

From 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, vehicles will be routed off of westbound Arlington Boulevard at 14th Street, make their way over to Wilson Boulevard and then follow 10th Street back to the highway.

Electronic signs will be posted notifying drivers of the detour, according to a news release.

During the detour, construction crews will erect steel beams for the new Courthouse Road bridge. The work is part of a $39 million project to improve the intersections of Arlington Boulevard, Courthouse Road and 10th Street.

Since the bridge has been demolished, eastbound traffic has been routed off Arlington Boulevard at the Rhodes Street exit, over to 14th Street and back down to Courthouse Road.
