County Wants Input on Bikeshare Expansion

The Arlington County Department of Environmental Services is seeking public feedback on proposed stations and suggestions for other locations.

Eagerly awaiting the expansion of Capital Bikeshare to Arlington? You can have a say in where new Bikeshare stations should be located.

The Arlington County Department of Environmental Services is holding a public meeting 7 p.m. Monday to collect feedback on proposed stations and suggestions for other locations. The meeting will be in the Cherry/Dogwood Conference Room at Courthouse Plaza, 2100 Clarendon Blvd.

Nearly 30 stations already are proposed for the Rosslyn, Courthouse, Clarendon, Virginia Square and Ballston areas. The sites were identified based on a variety of factors, including population and employment density, bike and transit facilities, and destinations.

New station locations need:

  • Four or more hours of direct sunlight daily;
  • an 11-by-32-foot area;
  • to be two to five blocks (500 to 1,250 feet) from another station;
  • a minimum 5-foot pedestrian clearance if on a sidewalk;
  • to be adjacent or near a bike lane if on the street (preferred);
  • flat ground;
  • to not block utility access, such as a manhole cover;
  • and to not create a dangerous situation for street users.

RSVP to info@BikeArlington.com. If you cannot make the meeting, you can still share your thoughts on the proposed Arlington station locations or provide suggestions by sending a note to that same email address.
