The county's recycling and waste reduction program manager, Linda Brown, will answer questions about residential recycling during the hour-long live chat. Questions also can be submitted in advance via Facebook or email.

The chat will take place using the Cover It Live program embeded on their Facebook page. It's a first for the Environmental Services Department, spokeswoman Shannon Whalen McDaniel said in an email. The department did host a live Twitter chat earlier this year for Earth Day.

Several factors influenced the decision to engage residents on Facebook, McDaniel stated.

The county wants to reach the growing number of people who are active on social media and seek information there. The county, too, hopes to introduce newcomers to Facebook as an information-sharing place.

You do not need a Facebook account to participate.

For more information or to post questions in advance, visit the Environmental Services Department's Facebook page. Questions also can be emailed to jheilman@arlingtonva.us.

A transcript will be available at www.arlingtonva.us/des after the chat.

Next month's Ask the Experts topic is streets and snow.
