County Board Discusses Proposed Budget

The Arlington County Board met for a final work session on the proposed 2012 county budget on Friday afternoon. An official budget will be adopted on April 16.

The Arlington County Board met briefly for a final work session on the proposed 2012 fiscal year budget on Friday afternoon. The board will officially vote on the proposed $1.2 billion budget - a 4.5 percent increase over the 2011 fiscal year budget - on April 16.

County Board Chairman Chris Zimmerman said he anticipated 99 percent of the proposed budget would remain unchanged.

"There's almost never any major changes," Zimmerman said.

The public hearing period of the budget process has ended. On April 16, the board will vote to officially adopt the budget.

"We'll explain what we're doing and the decisions we made," Zimmerman said. "At that point, it's relatively methodical."

County Manager Barbara Donnellan said board members will meet again on Tuesday afternoon to explain their proposed changes to county staff in advance of Saturday's vote.
