2012-13 Arlington Vehicle Decal Announced

Wakefield High School junior submits winning design.

A foreign exchange student at Wakefield High School submitted the winning design for Arlington County's 2012-13 vehicle decal.

Jeppe Callander, a junior, submitted a photo he took of the Pentagon Memorial at night.

"I actually took it to show my mom," Callander said Tuesday. "We don't have such things in Norway."

Callander's entry, called "Silent Memories," will appear on more than 155,000 vehicle in Arlington County.

It was one of 36 entries that was narrowed down to four finalists by a panel of Arlington residents. Those four were put to a countywide vote. In all, 1,987 votes were cast online and by mail.

"I think this year's selection is most appropriate, given the ten-year anniversary of Sept. 11," Treasurer Frank O'Leary stated in a news release.

All four finalists were from Wakefield. All four told the county board that their photography teacher, Jina Davidson, encouraged them to participate in the contest.

The new decals will be available this summer.
