Two Arlington Teens Charged With Shooting at Cars, Homes

Herbert Reyes-Cartagena, 18, and Alexander Chase, 19, have been charged.

Two Arlington teenagers have been charged with shooting at cars in the West Springfield area of Fairfax County.

Herbert Reyes-Cartagena, 18, and Alexander Chase, 19, were charged with destruction of property and shooting a missile at an occupied dwelling and an occupied vehicle.

The two were arrested after investigators received tips from the public, according to the Fairfax County Police Department.

“Without the public’s help, these cases can be tough to solve. But people took the time to read, watch the video, and call us and it made a huge difference,” said Capt. Joe Hill, commander of the West Springfield Police District.

The teens are accused of firing at dozens of car windows during the early morning hours in late November in the Newington Forest and Terra Grande neighborhoods. The shootings involved either a pellet or BB style gun, authorities said at the time.

During the course of the investigation, police said they were able to link the teens to an air rifle shooting into a home in the 8000 block of Parklane Court on Nov. 28 and to shooting at an occupied vehicle in the 8600 block of Pohick Road.

The investigation remains ongoing.

Chase was one of three Arlington teens charged in January in connection with a similar incident.

Arlington police at the time said those teens were responsible for shooting at least 250 vehicles over the past several months.
