Police Use Taser on Suspected Drug Dealer

Washington man allegedly found with 32 grams of crack during afternoon traffic stop.

Arlington police used a Taser to subdue a 41-year-old Washington man who attempted to run away after authorities allegedly found 32 grams of crack cocaine in his vehicle during a traffic stop Tuesday.

Officers say they also found a small scale, six cell phones and numerous baggies on Deron Brown after they stopped him in the 1200 block of South Glebe Road, just south of the Columbia Pike intersection, at about 2:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Brown has been charged with transporting more than 28 grams of crack cocaine into Virginia, possession with intent to distribute cocaine and obstruction of justice, according to information police released Wednesday.

In January 2009, a Deron Daniel Brown pleaded guilty in Arlington County Circuit Court to possession of cocaine, a felony, according to court records. He was sentenced to three years, though two years, nine months of that was suspended, court records show.

The man who was arrested this week and the one who pleaded guilty in 2009 are the same person, Sternbeck said.

He was not injured by the Taser, Sternbeck said.
