Scooter-Driving Georgetown Woman Arrested

Ann Goodman has been arrested twice for driving her scooter without a helmet and without a license.

Ann Goodman, a familiar face in the Georgetown community, is putting her scooter-driving days behind her after being arrested twice for driving her scooter, she told NBC Washington.

She has been arrested for not wearing a helmet and driving her scooter without a motorcycle license.

On the Second District police list serv, Patch found one of those instances in which Goodman was arrested in Georgetown for operating a scooter without a license. On Sept. 13 she was pulled over at 32nd Street and Reservoir Road and charged with a misdemeanor.

Currently, smaller scooters like Vespas are grouped with motorcycles under DC Law. Drivers need to pass a special motorcycle driving test and wear helmets.

She told NBC4 that she has put her scooter in the garage and given up riding it until the District changes its laws.

“Right after you get out of church and you're going to get a bottle of milk at the Safeway and then you end up in jail," she said during an interview with NBC4.

I've given mine up too. Between the crooks trying to steal it and the cops ticketing it, DC is not a good place to own a scooter despite the city being ideal for riding one.
