Police: Shot Fired Into Lyon Park Home

The Arlington County Police Department is investigating a shot fired near the edge of the Lyon Park community after a woman woke Wednesday to find a bullet in her living room floor.

Police received a call from an inebriated man around midnight Tuesday who reported hearing a shot fired in the 90 block of North Bedford Street, spokesman Dustin Sternbeck said.

North Bedford is a short street just west of the intersection of Washington and Arlington boulevards.

Officers checked the area but didn't find anything. No other calls were received during the night.

Police did receive a call at 8:58 a.m. Wednesday, though. A woman on Bedford Street woke up, went downstairs and found a spent .45-caliber bullet on her living room floor — and a bullet hole through the front of her house, Sternbeck said.

The woman and her husband were upstairs sleeping when the midnight call was received, Sternbeck said. No one else was home.

Wednesday morning, officers canvassed the area and spoke with neighbors.

"The area that this shot could've been fired from was fairly large," Sternbeck said. "It could have been accomplished from several areas."

Investigators haven't found any evidence that the house or anyone in it was targeted, Sternbeck said.

No other bullets were found in or around the house or the area officers canvassed, he said.

The investigation remains ongoing.
