Police Nab Suspected Serial Bank Robber

Investigators: Washington man believed to have robbed six Arlington banks in three months.

A Washington, D.C., man suspected of robbing six Arlington banks in the last three months has been arrested, according to a county police statement released today.

Peter Cifala, 57, was arrested on Friday and charged with one count of bank robbery .

Police say their investigation is ongoing and other charges may be pending. Local investigators worked with the FBI's Washington Field Office on this case.

"He was under survellience, and he was in Arlington" when he was apprehended, police Detective Crystal Nosal said. "He doesn't live here, but he was familiar with Arlington." 

Investigators believe Cifala dyed his hair black from its original gray after the first few bank robberies, Nosal said.

Nosal would not provide much information beyond that. She refused to give the man's physical address, say what he was doing at the time of apprehension, whether he had indicated a motive, whether any stolen money was found with him, or how many tips the department had received.
