Police: Man Tried to Attack CVS Employee with Scissors

Arrest made Sunday evening in Courthouse Metro station.

Dana Brown, 28, of Landover, Md., has been charged with with assault and attempted malicious wounding following an alleged incident at the Courthouse-area CVS this weekend.

Police say Brown entered the , 2121 15th St. N., at about 5:30 p.m. Sunday and began arguing with an employee.

He was in the store about 15 minutes before he was asked to leave, said police spokesman Dustin Sternbeck. Brown made threatening remarks as he left, and soon returned with a pair of scissors -- which he used to try to stab the employee, Sternbeck said.

"Apparently the employee and Brown have had a run-in before" at CVS, Sternbeck said.

Brown fled into the nearby Courthouse Metro station, Sternbeck said.

There, an Arlington officer ordered him to stop, Sternbeck said. Brown refused, and the officer drew his gun, Sternbeck said.

"The whole time, he was trying to reach for his scissors," Sternbeck said.

As Brown attempted to get the scissors out of his pants, the officer holstered his weapon and began to physically subdue the man, Sternbeck said.

During this, the officer attempted to call for backup on his radio, though that didn't work underground. The officer asked a nearby Metro employee to call 911.

Soon, a second officer arrived to help handcuff Brown.

The CVS employee identified the man to officers as his attacker, Sternbeck said.
