Police Investigate Clarendon Bank Robbery

Suspect remains at large. Investigators searched ART buses Wednesday looking for the culprit.

Arlington County police and the FBI are investing the robbery of the TD Bank in Clarendon, which authorities said occurred Wednesday afternoon.

Investigators believe that a man walked into the bank, at 3101 Wilson Blvd. near the Clarendon Metro, at about 3:30 p.m. Wednesday. He walked up to a teller and gave her a note announcing the robbery and that he had a gun, police Lt. Mike Watson told Patch.

The man was able to get some cash from the teller, but demanded more, Watson said. As he was waiting for the extra money, an armored car courier coincidentally walked in, which was enough to prompt the robber to walk out of the building and head west down Wilson Boulevard.

"At some point, he didn't feel like sticking around," Watson said.

No one was injured, and no one saw any weapon during the robbery, he said. Despite that, the case is be investigated as an armed robbery.

Police were called at 3:42 p.m. A witness told officers that they saw the man board a green bus, so police stopped and searched all ART buses in the area, Watson said.

The man remains at large. He is described as being 6 feet tall with an average build and short hair. He was wearing a grey shirt, blue jeans and a Rastafarian-style red, yellow and green hat at the time of the robbery, Watson said.

Police are not disclosing the amount of money he got away with.

Detectives remained on the scene Wednesday evening trying to recover video or stills that could be distributed to the public to help them find the man.
