Police: Cyclist Punched While Trying to Retrieve Stolen Bike

Robbery

A man who tried to retrieve what he believed was his stolen his bike was punched in the face, according to the Arlington County Police Department.

The incident took place at 10:26 a.m. Jan. 17 in the 2700 block of North Wilson Boulevard in Clarendon, Authorities said.

Police said the man spotted what he believed to be his stolen bike on the front rack of a bus. The man put his new bike on the front rack of the bus and boarded the bus, police said.

When he got off of the bus, he removed both his new bike and the allegedly stolen bike from the front rack. The victim was confronted by a man who punched him in the face and stole the man's new bike, according to police.

The victim took a photo of his attacker, who is about 35 years old, 6 feet tall, and 180 pounds. He wore dark pants, a dark jacket and light Nike shoes.

Robbery

A man was attacked by two men who beat him and threatened him with a knife, according to the Arlington police. 

The victim was sitting in an area between two apartment buildings at 12:08 a.m. Sunday in the 4200 block of North 2nd Street when two men walked toward him, police report.

One of the men punched the victim in the face. While the man made it back to his feet, the second attacker pushed him to the ground, where he was punched and kicked. One of the assailants pulled out a folding knife and threatened to kill the victim if they didn’t get cash, according to police.

The victim told the men that money was in his backpack that had fallen to the ground. The victim was able to run away while the men walked toward the backpack, police report.

The first robber was about 5 feet, 10 inches tall and 160 pounds. He wore a black jacket and black pants. The second robber was about 5 feet, 7 inches tall and 170 pounds.

Burglary

Several items were taken from a home sometime between 7:30 a.m. and 3 p.m. Monday in the 5100 block of North 16th Street, police report. There were no signs of forced entry.

Washing machines were tampered with after someone apparently tried to steal coins from them, according to police. Authorities said that between 10:30 a.m. Sunday and 9:09 a.m. Monday, someone forced their way into an apartment building in the 1200 block of North Kensington Street.

Items were taken from an apartment after someone broke in between 6:45 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. Sunday at a residence in the 300 block of North Glebe Road.

Someone cut a window screen to get into a home Saturday in the 4000 block of North 5th Street, according to police.

Electronics and cash were stolen sometime between 9:30 a.m. and 3:10 p.m. on Jan. 17 from a home in the 5000 block of North 10th Street, police report.
