Police Ask for Help Finding Impersonator Trying to 'Seize' Watches

Incidents took place earlier this month in Pentagon City Mall.

A man claiming to be a detective and trying to seize wrist watches is at large, and the Arlington County Police Department is asking for the public's help in locating the man.

The impersonator struck twice Jan. 3, police announced Wednesday — nearly two weeks after the incident.

On Jan. 3, the man allegedly "flashed a badge," identified himself as a detective and told clerks at two different Pentagon City Mall stores that he needed to seize watches for evidence in a case, according to a news release.

He was unsuccessful each time. The clerks refused the man and asked him to leave, police state.

Investigators are looking for a 5-foot, 8-inch man weighing about 170 pounds. At the time of the incidents, he wore dark jeans, a gray jacket and a red-and-black plaid hat.

Police are asking anyone with information on this man to contact Detective James Stone at 703-228-4245 or at jstone@arlingtonva.us. To report information anonymously, contact Arlington County Crime Solvers at 866-411-8477.
