Update: Police Identify Veteran Killed in Hit-and-Run

The man was 62-years-old. His identity has not been released by police.

Arlington Police have identified the man who was killed in a hit-and-run accident on Route 110 near Arlington National Cemetery early Tuesday morning.

"Robert Shepard, 62, of Lawrence, MA, was found deceased on a sidewalk next to the roadway," a police statement reports.

"A striking vehicle or suspect has yet to be identified and police are seeking witnesses at this time," the reports says. "Shepard was reported missing and endangered by a girlfriend in Lawrence, Mass. on June 29, 2012. Anyone that believes they have information on the identity of the suspect or striking vehicle are encouraged to contact the Arlington County Police non-emergency phone line at 703.558.2222."

A pedestrian was killed in a hit-and-run accident on the soutbound side of Route 110 near Arlington National Cemetery Tuesday morning, the Washington Examiner reports.

The victim was a 62-year-old veteran who had been reported "missing and endangered by his girlfriend in Massachusetts," ABC 7 reports.

Arlington Police spokesman Dustin Sternbeck told the Examiner that a 911 call was placed at approximately 5:35 a.m. "about a pedestrian lying on the sidewalk in front of a vehicle."

According to ABC 7 the victim's name has not been released by authorities but the Examiner article identified him as a military veteran.
