Man Jumps from Apartment Balcony, Dies

Suicide happened near the Virginia Square Metro station.

A 32-year-old man jumped to his death from the ninth floor balcony of a residential apartment onto the sidewalk of North Monroe Street near the Virginia Square Metro station shortly after 5 p.m. Saturday.

Arlington County Police spokesman Dustin Sternbeck said the man, who lived in the apartment, died instantly. No one else was present in the unit when he jumped. The building is located on the 900 block of North Nelson Street, but the man's apartment faced North Monroe Street.

The police have ruled the incident a suicide.

The suicide caused minimal traffic disruption, but a portion of the sidewalk on North Monroe Street was taped off. Police cleared the scene by 10:22 p.m. that night.

Police have not released the man's identity.
