Update: Key Bridge Reopened After Bomb Threat

The bridge was closed for about an hour.

Update (11:36 a.m.): The Key Bridge has been reopened after a bomb threat turned out to be a false alarm, according to the Metropolitan Police Department.

"There was nothing found," police spokeswoman Saray Leon told Patch.

The scene has been cleared and all lanes of the bridge are open.

Original story (10:50 a.m.): The Key Bridge is closed due to a suspicious package.

The Metropolitan Police Department received a call about the package this morning, and the department's Explosive Ordinance Division is responding, police spokeswoman Tisha Gant told Patch.

Police were alerted to the package by a phone call Thursday morning. The public information office was subsequently informed at 10:30 a.m., Gant said.

Arlington County issued an alert at 10:45 a.m. saying that traffic would be routed away from the bridge for "several hours."

Arlington police are on the scene in Rosslyn providing support, Lt. Mike Watson told Patch.

Traffic is being diverted from northbound Lynn Street onto westbound Lee Highway, he said.

Drivers will be unable to access the bridge or George Washington Parkway from Rosslyn. Access on and off Interstate 66 is still allowed.

The MPD has set up a command post on the Washington side of the bridge, he said.
