Javon Martin Found Guilty in 2009 Murder

An Arlington County jury found the 25-year-old man guilty in the murder of Lyon Park resident Carl Diener.

Javon Martin was found guilty in the murder and robbery of 57-year-old Carl Diener this week.

An Arlington County jury recommended a 27-year sentence for Martin, 25. His formal sentencing is scheduled for a later date.

“From that cold December morning when Mr. Diener’s body was found, the Arlington County Police Department never wavered in their determination to solve this murder,” Arlington Police Chief Doug Scott said in a statement.

Murder charges were also brought against Roger K. Clark III, of Severn, Md. Clark pleded guilty and is currently awaiting sentencing, according to Arlington police.

Diener, who lived in the Lyon Park neighborhood, was found by a passerby stabbed to death on Dec. 29, 2009, in the 3200 block of North 13th Street, according to authorities. Diener had been on his way to a local health club when he was attacked, police said.
