Crime Report: Woman Robbed While Walking Home from Ballston Metro

The Arlington County Police Department released the following reports for incidents that took place from Jan. 24 through Jan. 30.

Where charges are mentioned in the incidents below, they do not indicate a conviction.

Robbery

A woman walking home from the Ballston metro was approached from behind by a man who put his hand over her face, according to the Arlington County Police Department.

The man grabbed the woman’s purse and ran away, police report. The incident took place at 11:53 p.m. on Jan. 23 on the 4400 block of North Fourth Street.

The man was about 5 foot 7 inches tall and 160 pounds. He wore a black wool coat, dark jeans, a knit hat, and a light-colored scarf.

Robbery

A man and a woman were caught trying to shoplift from a store, according to Arlington police.

Police report that the two entered a store at about 2:43 p.m. on Jan. 27 on the 700 block of North Glebe Road. They tried to steal merchandise by putting items in a bag. When they were confronted by a loss prevention agent, the woman struck the store employee and tried to run away, according to police.

Sarah Karam, 22, of Arlington, was charged with robbery and is being held without bond. Fahad Algour, 27, of Falls Church, was charged with grand larceny and is being held on a $2,000 secure bond.

Burglary

Electronics and cash were taken from a home sometime between 12:45 p.m. and 1:15 p.m. on Jan. 23 on the 800 block of North Abingdon Street, police report.

Burglary

A home was rummaged and ransacked after a burglar broke in by prying open a basement door, according to police. The home was entered sometime between 10 a.m. and 11:30 p.m. on Jan. 25 on the 600 block of North Abingdon Street.

Burglary

A burglar smashed through the sliding glass door of a home and stole a gun belonging to the victim, police report. The burglary took place sometime between 9 a.m. on Jan. 25 and 9:02 p.m. on Jan. 27 at the home on the 2200 block of South Pollard Street.

Burglary

Eight laptops were stolen from a commercial building, police said. The equipment was stolen sometime between 5 p.m. on Jan. 18 and 10:55 a.m. on Jan. 28 from the building on the 1500 block of North Wilson Boulevard.

Burglary

Two laptops were taken from a commercial building. The items were stolen between 6:30 p.m. on Jan. 25 and 11:19 a.m. on Jan. 28 on the 2500 block of North Wilson Boulevard.
