Update (3:29 p.m.): Arlington County police and fire officials are in the process of clearing the scene and reopening roads in Rosslyn, fire Capt. Gregg Karl stated in an email.
Karl still could not describe the type of chemical that was spilled.
Original story (1:01 p.m.): The 1400 block of Wilson Blvd in Rosslyn and surrounding streets will be closed due to an emergency response, according to Arlington County.
The closures went into effect shortly after noon and could last several hours. Motorists are advised to take alternate routes.
Emergency responders are on the scene of a chemical spill, according to the county.
Arlington County Fire Department Capt. Gregg Karl did not know what chemical was spilled, only that police requested the county's hazardous materials team.
"It's a small spill, less than 10 gallons, at a loading dock in Rosslyn," Karl told Patch. "They're shutting down areas around there just to keep people out and to let the hazmat team do their mitigation."
