Arlington Public Servants Honored at Valor Awards

The awards are distributed by the Arlington Chamber of Commerce.

Arlington’s Chamber of Commerce recently honored public servants who went above and beyond the call of duty in the 31st Annual Valor Awards.
 
This year, the awards recognized members from Arlington’s Office of Emergency Management, police department, fire department and sheriff’s office.
 
The following is more information about their achievements, from Arlington’s Chamber of Commerce:
 
Donald “D.J.” Winsock- Life-Saving Award
Arlington County Office of Emergency Management
While helping answering emergency call in to 911, Winsock walked a caller through performing life-saving CPR last August.
 
Sergeant Jack Lantz- Meritorious Service Award
Arlington County Sheriff’s Office
Lantz started his career in the sheriff’s office for 29 years, and in that time, “His performance reviews contain comment after comment expressing appreciation for his hard work, dedication, and leadership,” according to a bio from the Chamber of Commerce.
 
Sergeant David Bowers, DSII Efthimios Alpos, DSII Monica Lyons-Carr, and DSII Arthur Pitts- Life-Saving Award
Arlington County Office of the Sheriff
In 2010, a woman at the Arlington County Detention Facility attempted suicide. If it had not been for the actions of the three staffers above, the woman would not have survived.
 
Sergeant Richard Laureano-Life Saving Award
Arlington County Office of the Sheriff
While attending a wrestling championship in Woodbridge, Sgt. Laureano helped treat a wrestler who had collapsed and appeared to have a seizure. The wrestler survived partially due to Laureano’s treatment.
 
Captain Kevin Reardon – Meritorious Service Award
Arlington County Police Department
Cpt. Reardon has been an officer for 26 years and “has always gone above and beyond the call of duty,” his biography reads.
 
Corporal Richard St. Clair and Officer Patrick Maxwell- Valor Award
Arlington County Police Department
These officers were involved in a harrowing incident in 2012 when a firefighter/medic had fallen off an overpass. 
 
Corporal David Munn, Officer Daniel Gardner, and Officer Hilary Maloney- Valor with Life-Saving Award
Arlington County Police Department
These three officer helped saved a suicidal combat veteran from jumping from the 18th floor of a building in June 2012.
 
Captain Trevor Burrell-Meritorious Service Award
Arlington County Fire Department
Burrell leads the Fire and EMS Training Committee of Arlington County, where he has created an “interactive and engaging training program for recruits,” according to a summary of his achievements.
