Arlington Man Charged in Rape

Police: Man attacked woman here to visit her sister.

A woman visiting her sister in Arlington reported being raped Thursday afternoon in the Tara-Leeway Heights community.

Carlos Montalban Pineda, 45, of Arlington, has been charged with animate object sexual penetration.

The victim came to this country to visit her sister, who lived in a basement apartment in the 2100 block of North Patrick Henry Drive, police spokesman Dustin Sternbeck said.

The basement has three bedrooms, each considered an apartment, and residents share a common bathroom, kitchen and living area.

At about 3:30 p.m. Thursday, the woman arrived at her sister's apartment, according to information police released Friday. She wasn't home.

"She was in the kitchen. He ended up grabbing her and taking her to his room," Sternbeck said. "He held her down against her will."

Pineda, also a tenant of the basement apartments, and the woman had "crossed paths" before but didn't have a prior relationship, Sternbeck said.

The woman reported being raped within two hours of the incident, Sternbeck said.

No witnesses have been identified, he said.
