Victim had been drinking, walking in the roadway.

A 23-year-old Arlington man died early Friday after being struck by a vehicle, according to the Arlington County Police Department.

Zorigoo Munkhbayar was found dead at about 3 a.m.

The fatal collision occurred near the North Rhodes Street ramp on eastbound Route 50. Police responded and found him lying in the road. The vehicle that struck him was not on the scene.

Munkhbayar had been drinking, Nosal said. He had been walking with traffic, not facing it. There is no sidewalk in the area he was walking.

Police are in the early stages of their investigation, Nosal said, sorting through evidence and attempting to locate and interview witnesses.

"It's happened on Route 50 before," she said.

When walking at night, pedestrians should be sure to use a sidewalk and not walk in the street, wear bright or reflexive clothing and walk facing traffic.

Investigators are asking anyone who may have seen a man walking on eastbound Route 50 or witnessed the collision to contact Detective Paul Marseilles at 703-228-4237 or pmarseilles@arlingtonva.us.
