2nd Annual 50-Mile Kennedy Walk

Join us again for our 2nd annual walk along the C&O Canal Towpath. The trail that originated as many as 50 other annual Kennedy Walks (Marches) around the world.

You are welcome to walk with a group of long distance walkers as we recreate an historic walk on Saturday, February 8, 2014 - exactly the same route Robert F. Kennedywalked his famous 50 miles.

On February 9, 1963, Bobby, the Attorney General, walked from Great Falls, Maryland to Harper's Ferry, West Virginia. The journey was in response to a challenge by his brother,President John F. Kennedy, who wanted to test the fitness of his military troops as well as remind the public to stay active and physically fit as a national goal. Themes that remain very relevant and important, even today.

The route is flat and nearly all takes place on the towpath trail. However, the trail can be dangerous for walking in the winter months due to ice and mud.

FreeWalkers.org will offer SAG support services as an option for $15 per person. There will still be an option to walk the route independently with the group free and without support. Regardless of choice, please be prepared for all contingencies and have a backup person on call if you run into problems.
