Been busy with sun, sand and summer fun? Here's what you may have missed.

Regular readers might have noticed Saturday's Week in Review has been absent for a while. So, this installment will catch you up on some of the big headlines we've had since the July Fourth holiday weekend.

Things certainly started out with a bang -- and not just from fireworks. On July 3, a microburst hit northern Arlington County, leaving thousands without power and limbs, trees and other debris everywhere. . The county is recycling the brush, turning it into mulch, and making it available to people for free. .

  • Arlington County's controversial zoning administrator, Melinda Artman, is leaving her post to attend Virginia Theological Seminary. .
  • Freelancer Holly Nunn filed a story that offers . Considering Arlington and Manhattan are the only two areas of the country where the average individual compensation is more than $100,000 per year, the definition of "affordable" here may be a bit different than other places.

  • The state Senate race between Barbara Favola and Jaime Areizaga-Soto for the Democratic nomination to fill retiring Sen. Mary Margaret Whipple continues its negative descent. This week, the Favola camp issued an apology for labeling Areizaga-Soto a "Republican" in a telephone poll her campaign authorized. . Next week: Second quarter campaign disclosures become available.
