Vets, Active-Duty Military Get Free Pass to State Parks

Initiative lasts through Dec. 31

All active-duty military, along with veterans residing in Virginia, can enter state parks for free today through the end of the year.

Gov. Bob McDonnell announced the measure this week as part of the 75th anniversary of the state parks system, which opened June 15, 1936.

Family members of active-duty servicemen and women also will be able to enter for free, regardless of whether that person is with them.
