Monday
Today, older adults can enjoy a picnic from noon to 2 p.m. at the Lee Community Center & Senior Center, 5722 Lee Highway.

Tuesday
Tuesday is the last date to register to vote for the upcoming special election on Sept. 4 in the state's 45th House District. Absentee voting for this race is already under way. Voters in five Arlington precincts — Aurora Hills, Fairlington, Abingdon, Oakridge and Shirlington — are eligible.

Wednesday
Children ages 6 to 11 can learn about fortification in Arlington during the Civil War. Children can help build replica forts using Lincoln Logs. For more information, call 703-243-4342. Thursday
The Transportation Commission meets at 7:30 p.m. to discuss issues such as streets, transit, pedestrian, taxis and bicycle modes of transportation and their relation to various site, sector and countywide plans.
Friday
Did you know raccoons have about 10,000 more nerve endings in their hands than we do? Or that they can remember how to open a complicated lock many years after they first learned how? Learn more about raccoons while sitting around a campfire at 7 p.m. at the Gulf Branch Nature Center. Registration is required.
