Shirlington Gym Offering Free Workouts to Furloughed Employees, Contractors

The Energy Club is located in Shirlington Village.

A gym in Shirlington Village is offering to give free workouts to federal employees and contractors on their furlough days.

Affected individuals in the Arlington and Alexandria areas can bring their furlough papers and government ID to the Energy Club at 2900 S. Quincy St. to obtain the free workouts.

" ... We understand that many people in the community may be worried about their loss of work and pay; we don’t want that to negatively affect their health and fitness," General Manager Joanne Duchaine said in a statement.

"So, while the government figures out how to run more efficiently, we want these furloughed employees to work on their physical fitness, so that their bodies can also learn to run more efficiently!"

Once furloughs are finished, the fitness center will offer a special government employee rate to those who took advantage of the free workouts, according to a news release.
