Power Outage in Rosslyn-Ballston Corridor

Dominion manages to restore power to all but a few customers within a half hour.

A large power outage affected large parts of the Rosslyn-Ballston corridor on Wednesday. Starting at roughly 1pm, approximately 6,000 Dominion customers were in the dark for  a half an hour before power was rerouted to a different station and service was restored to most customers.

ARLnow reported that an Arlington County police officer was stranded in an elevator at the station in Courthouse.

Le-Ha Anderson, with Domininon Virginia Power's media relations department, said that the power company did not know the root cause of the outages but that a team was on the site of the Ballston power station investigating.

"We're seeing if we can identify what actually caused the outage. But we bypassed the area that seemed to have the problem," Anderson said.

As of 1:45pm, Anderson said that all power had been restored. But tweets sent to ClarendonPatch suggested that some customers were still in the dark. A check of the Dominion Interactive Power map confirmed that the outages were still affecting a few customers after 2pm.
