'Major' Traffic Delays Expected in Rosslyn Following Construction Site Collapse

Retaining wall in the 1500 block of Clarendon Boulevard failed Sunday night.

Both lanes of Clarendon Boulevard between Pierce and Oak streets are expected to remain closed through Monday afternoon rush hour following a construction site collapse this weekend.

The Rosslyn exit on state Route 110 has been closed to help ease traffic congestion, according to an Arlington County alert.

The county suggests Lee Highway and Arlington Boulevard as the best routes to get to and through Rosslyn.

Sunday night, a retaining wall at a construction site at 1530 Clarendon Blvd. failed, causing dirt and debris to slide into an area excavated for a major residential living complex, said Lt. Gregg Karl with the Arlington County Fire Department.

Karl said he did not know what caused the wall to fail.

A nearby apartment building and parking lot was evacuated, Karl said.

The county's Inspection Services Division is in charge of the scene, he said. The county is working with Clark Construction Group, the general contractor for the project, Karl said.

The JBG Cos. broke ground on the $140 million project earlier this year, according to the Washington Business Journal.

Sedona and Slate, as it is called, will include 474 apartments and 25 townhomes.

This story has been updated to include bus detours.
