Get Out: Patch's Pick-and-Choose Weekend Planner

Need ideas to get your weekend going? Look no further.

Where/When: Near the Clarendon Metro Station, 3100 Wilson Blvd., Arlington. Saturday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Why Go: There will be a 10k, 5k and kids' dash. There will also be local music on two stages and food booths by dozens of local restaurants. Enjoy a glass of beer or wine with your neighbors! This is how Clarendon does a block party - BIG!

Why Go: According to the group's website, "Chopteeth is a 14-piece Afrofunk orchestra exploring the common groove between the funkiest, most hip-shakin’ West African and American popular music on the planet." They've been lauded by the press all over the country and this Friday night, they'll be playing right here in our collective backyard.

Pricing: The cover charge is $15.

Where/When: , 627 N Glebe Rd., Arlington. Friday, 7 p.m.

Why Go: According to the , "The Washington Capitals will host the inaugural Capitals Alumni Game at Kettler Capitals Iceplex on Friday, Sept. 23 at 7 p.m. The game will include several popular former Capitals players and will kick of the 2011 Capitals Convention weekend festivities."

Pricing: Tickets range in price from $10 to $20.

Where/When: , 3210 Grace St., NW, Washington. Friday, 7 p.m.

Why Go: Bring your favorite alcoholic (or non-alcoholic) beverage and let your creative juices flow. Instructions will guide painting novices through a step-by-step process and participants will walk away with a vibrant painting of the New Orleans French Quarter.

Pricing: $60 includes instruction, a canvas and painting supplies.

Where/When: , 1237 Wisconsin Ave. NW, Georgetown. Saturday, 5 p.m.

Why Go: Alexa Chung will be launching her new line at Madewell with a splash! A D.J. will be pumping music out to the shopping masses and shoppers will receive a free limited-edition Alexa Chung gift with their Madewell purchase. "Snack, sip and be the first to shop the latest collection from the style icon."
