Why Go: Black Friday is going to bring out all kinds of crazy to the metro area's malls this weekend. Skip the mayhem and peruse the Georgetown Flea Market at your own pace.

2. Ice Skating at Kettler Capitals Iceplex

Where/When: , 627 N. Glebe Rd., Arlington, Va. Friday, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 8:40 p.m. to 9:40 p.m. Saturday, 12:15 p.m. to 1:45 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday, 2:30 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Why Go: Get in the holiday spirit with a little ice skating this weekend. We can't think of a better way to burn off some of those Thanksgiving calories.

Pricing: Adults, $8. Children 12 years old and under, $7. Skate rentals are an additional $4.

3. National Symphony Orchestra Pops: An Unforgettable Tribute to Nat King Cole 

Where/When: , 2700 F St. NW, Washington, D.C. Sunday, Friday, 1:30 p.m. and 8 p.m. Saturday, 8 p.m.

Why Go: When is the last time you saw a musician with 10 Grammy Awards to his name? Make it a point to see George Benson pay tribute to the great Nat "King" Cole at The Kennedy Center this weekend. And with ticket prices this cheap, you can afford to take the whole family.

Pricing: Tickets range in price from $20 to $85.

4. Small Business Saturday

Where/When: All day Saturday at local stores throughout the metro region.

Why Go: Some shoppers can't avoid the siren call of the big box stores on Black Friday, but if being trampled by the masses isn't really your idea of a good time, check out Small Business Saturday in Arlington and D.C. this weekend. It's a nationwide effort to help promote local stores.

Pricing: Don't forget your wallet!

5. Walter Isaacson Book Signing

Where/When: , 3040 M St. NW, Georgetown, D.C. Sunday, 4 p.m.

Why Go: If you haven't already read Walter Isaacson's authorized biography of Steve Jobs, then the book is probably on your Christmas list. Treat yourself a month early and stop by Barnes & Noble in Georgetown on Sunday to meet the author himself. Isaacson, the president and CEO of the Aspen Institute and the former managing editor of TIME, will be signing copies of the biography.

Pricing: The book's list price is $35.
